About LTI
Mission Statement
The mission statement of the Leadership Training Institute is to create a sustainable community of diverse students and staff, and to promote the integration of leadership, service, and comprehension of self-identity into all aspects of their lives.
Pay-It-Foward
As an organization, LTI fundamentally believes in the value of Pay-It-Forward.The schematic above illustrates how the program tries to achieve this goal. Mentor development sessions give MIT undergraduates the skills needed to lead activities and guide discussions during sessions. During the Spring Sessions, these mentors work with high school students in the Boston community; in return, mentors also benefit from learning from the personal experiences these high school students bring to the program. High school students receive one-on-one mentoring with MIT undergraduates while learning and practicing leadership skills. After reflecting upon the lessons conveyed in the curriculum, high school students then design and implement a Final Project that targets an issue they observe in their own communities.
